Curtiss Bay, Antarctica, 1998

This was our first setting of foot onto the mainland of Antarctica. In the winter months, Antarctica doubles its surface due to the ice. The true land of Antarctica is often impenetrable due to the massive ice cliffs that surround much of the mainland. A few places such as Curtiss Bay are far enough north that the land is exposed when the ice recedes in summer.
